Great Yorkshire AV Day -
Sunday 21st February 2010
What
a day! The snow on Sunday was heay and it looked like numbers
would be down due to difficult road conditions. However,
40 of the 60 candidates booked in managed to make it and
enjoyed an exceptional program. In the morning there were
a number of sequences shown for discussion and appraisal
and in the afternoon Linda and Edgar Gibbs presented a lesson
in preparing and using sound tracks to enhace our A-V sequences.
They were excellent. The information they shared consisted
of a detailed practical demonstration using Audition showing
how sound can bring to life even a single image (shame about
the crows - in joke). We were also treated to a number of
productions they have made culminating in the award winning
Talbot House sequence. For those unable to attend, you missed
a superb day. Our thanks to Linda and Edgar for the expertise
they shared and the professinal way in which it was presented.
Also thanks to Bryan and the team.

Day in November 2010 and make sure you get your tickets

Great Yorkshire AV Day -
Sunday 22nd November 2009
Many
thanks to Bryan Stubbs and the team for an excellent day.
During the morning a number of superb attender sequences
were viewed and commented on by our speaker for the day,
Ian Bateman. The proceedings were hosted by our own Keith
Scott and much was learned as various constructive and innovative
comments were debated.
Ian Bateman showed a number of his sequences during the
afternoon and gave us some very useful tips on the use of
PTE. He also showed us some of his 3D sequences and we all
wore those wonderful cardboard glasses with red and green
lenses. Make sure to look in AV News for the photos. It
should be noted that the event was a sell-out with a number
of people unable to obtain tickets which bodes well for
the future of AV in the North. Keep your eyes open for details
of the next Great Yorkshire AV Day in February 2010 and
make sure you get your tickets in time!

Leeds
AV Group held its 34th annual Colour & Music Spectacular
on the 5-7th March 2009 at St. Chad's Parish Centre in Leeds.
Once again the event was a great success with around 600
attendees over the three nights. In total there were twenty
sequences with subjects ranging from Whitby to Botswana,
Creativity to the Artistic and a mixed variety of high quality
presentations representing a broad spectrum of the members
work. It was good to see work from members submitting first
time sequences.
Each night the audience was given the opportunity to vote
for the three sequences they enjoyed most, the winner being
presented with the Premier Trophy. This year David Firth
LRPS won the award with his superb presentation entitled
The Mist And The Rime. The official judge for the overall
competition was John Gilleghan MBE and he also judged The
Mist And The Rime to be the winner of the Ralph Smith Audio
Visual Trophy.(See Photo)

to date over £15,700 has been donated by the Leeds

Great Yorkshire RPS Distinctions
& AV Weekend
Another
highly successful Great Yorkshire AV weekend was held at
the Bradford Media Museum on the 22nd & 23rd November
2008, hosted by The Leeds AV Group. Saturday saw an entry
of seven applications for distinctions, three for the Licentiateship
and four for the Associateship.Three applicants achieved
referal for the Licentiateship and one for the Associateship.
The RPS distinctions chairman, Robert Albright presided
over the events and the panel deliberated the entries. For
anyone considering applying for distinctions these events
are invaluable for gaining an understanding of the standards
required by the panel.
Sunday
morning commenced with the retiring Regional Organiser,
Stuart Clarke, recounting some of his experiences over the
past years. Stuart was presented with the coveted and rarely
awarded Dobson Henry Medal by Keith Scott FRPS, National
Chairman of the RPS AV Group as a recognition of his Outstanding
Contribution inthe Audio Visual Medium.
Following
the presentation Bryan Stubbs was established as the new
Regional Organiser and he introduced the programme for the
day. The morning session was dedicated to sequences brought
along by attendees for viewing and comment. Each sequence
was projected and observations invited from the floor. The
discussions were coordinated by Keith Scott FRPS, and our
speakers Jill K Bunting CPAGB and John Smith APAGB CPAGB,
also offered constructive comments. There were some excellent
presentations from both beginners and experienced workers
alike and a lot to be gained from the comments offered.
Sunday
afternoon Jill and John showed a variety of sequences including
the award winning Colour Thief and The Messiah. They demonstrated
how to re-size, position and crop images and align horizons
both in Photoshop and Pictures to Exe. There was a section
on how to place titles on images combined with the Pan,
Zoom and Rotate tools in PXE. John gave an in depth presentation
in the use the free software programs CDex for "ripping"
audio tracks from a CD, and Audacity for single or multi-track
sound manipulation. This included recording and editing
a simple voice over and the creation of a multi-track "horror"
story using various sound effects. There was interaction
with questions and answers throughout the afternoon and
from the comments at the end of the session a great time
was enjoyed by all. Many were overheard discussing how much
they had learned from events of the day.
A
big thank you to all involved in making this a successful
weekend.
