Colour & Music Spectacular 2008
Leeds
AV Group held its 33rd annual Colour & Music Spectacular
on the 6-8th March 2008 at St. Chad's Parish Centre in Leeds.
Once again the event was a great success with around 600
attendees over the three nights. In total there were nineteen
sequences with subjects ranging from a walk in the Dales
to a South American Adventure, Leeds Past & Present
to the Glen Of Weeping and a mixed variety of high quality
presentations representing a broad spectrum of the members
work.
Each night the audience was given the opportunity to vote
for the three sequences they enjoyed most, the winner being
presented with the Premier Trophy. This year Dr. Laurie
Ramsay won the award with his superb natural history presentation
entitled Woodland Way depicting the year in nature.
The official judge for the overall competition was Ian Bateman
FRPS, MPAGB and he awarded the Ralph Smith Audio Visual
Trophy to Keith Scott for his presentation entitled The
Sound Of
. (See Photo)
The Show supports St. Gemma's and Wheatfield Hospices and
to date over £14,500 has been donated by the Leeds
AV Group which has only been made possible by the support
of the Shows' audience.
The next Colour & Music Spectacular at St. Chad's will
be 5th-7th March 2009. Please keep in touch with events
at the Leeds AV Group by logging on to this website.
Great Yorkshire RPS AV
Sundays
The
group recently hosted the most successful AV Sunday yet
at the National Media Museum, Bradford with presenters Dick
Williams and Dave Wilcox from Essex. Their programme of
sequences was interspersed with technical hints and tips
to aid production but most if all their presentation demonstrated
that one of the most important prerequisites for successful
AV is the idea. The wide variety of subject, from the simplest
to productions requiring in depth research amply demonstrated
this. The morning session was devoted to attendees sequences.
These are being given an airing to test audience reaction
and the discussions were led by Keith Scott, National Chaiman
of the RPS AV Group. It was fortunate that Robert Albright,
chairman of the RPS distinctions panel who judged the three
inter regions competition was also in the audience to offer
his very perceptive observations. From this exposure, the
author can pick up hints as to how the production can be
improved with perhaps the merest change, or remove an unseen
fault, and the audience also learn from such guidance, perhaps
avoiding similar glitches in their own productions. If you
missed this day and would like to attend future events,
watch this space, for details of the event planned or early
November, when the presenters will be running a mini workshop.
